Route 66, the mother road, is a big part of Oklahoma. The stretch of road that crosses through the heart of Oklahoma, attracts tourists from all over the world, and that's exactly what state leaders, who are focused on tourism, want. Buck Atom: Space Cowboy Muffler Man
"It's like taking the past and future and mashing it together," said Mary Beth Babcock of her new Muffler Man, Buck Atom. Unveiled on May 11, 2019, before a crowd of several hundred people including the mayor of Tulsa and Oklahoma's lieutenant governor, Buck is retro in his Muffler Man style, but trailblazing in his gestation and official blessing. Welcome Buck Atom To Tulsa Route 66 With Launch Party Saturday
Tulsa will soon have a new roadside attraction on Route 66. Buck Atom is a 21-foot space cowboy fiberglass statue that will arrive in Tulsa Thursday and be greeted with a launch party Saturday, May 11. Buck is the brainchild of Tulsan Mary Beth Babcock, owner of Buck Atom's Cosmic Curios on Route 66. Babcock said she first was inspired to create a landmark attraction after visiting Pop's Soda Ranch on Route 66 near Oklahoma City. Read the rest here.
Buck Atom sculpture to launch May 11 on Route 66
The biggest thing to set foot on Route 66 in years will arrive May 11, with the official launch party for the Buck Atom Space Cowboy Roadside Attraction, which will be set up at Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios, 1347 E. 11th St. The party, which begins at 10 a.m., will feature as guest speakers Lt. Gov. Matt Pinnell, Tulsa Mayor G.T. Bynum, local author and historian Michael Wallis, Abby Kurin, director of Tulsa Office of Film, Music, Arts & Culture; Joel Baker, owner of American Giant Co.; and Mary Beth Babcock, owner of Buck Atom’s Cosmic Curios on 66.
